While there is no evidence that you can boost your immune system with supplements to fight the corona virus, the experts agree that the best way to keep your immune system optimized is by reducing physical and mental stress. The following are 4 easy ways to keep stress under control.
1. Balanced nutrition
Research has shown that poor nutrition such as excess consumption of empty calorie foods and junk snacks can cause stress in the body by causing inflammation. To reduce this physical stress, make sure to eat balanced meals with healthy snacks consisting of high protein, low sugar, low salt, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
2. Be physically active
Exercise reduces inflammation and supports infectious fighting cells. Exercise also reduces mental stress by releasing endorphins. To help reduce physical and mental stress, include physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day such as in-home exercises, running (or walking) in place, burpees, lunges, jumping jacks, family play, etc.
3. Practice meditation / prayer
The uncertainty of these times can cause large amounts of mental stress which can weaken your immune system. To reduce mental stress, include meditation such as yoga or prayer for 20-30 minutes per day.
4. Adequate sleep
Rest is the best way to recover from physical and mental stress. Essential body functions including immunity is repaired during sleep. To ensure you have your immune system working at its best, make sure you have a good night sleep for at least 7-8 hrs. Keep your mobile device in a different room and avoid eating heavy meals at night.
